Flying Malta App

As mobile applications became increasingly more common, it was only a matter of time before Malta saw the launch of its very first aviation app. What began as a recreational project developed simply for fun quickly evolved into a much larger initiative. Initially unaware of the level of commitment, administrative demands, and technical challenges involved, it was soon realized just how much this project would require to reach its full potential.

Development of the Flying Malta App began in the summer of 2016, with a clear objective: to support pilots operating within the Maltese Islands by providing them with safe, professional, and streamlined access to critical flight information. Special attention was also given to aspiring student pilots undergoing training in Malta. As the first project of its kind in the country, a number of challenges were faced early on, but thanks to perseverance and continued support from both local and international aviation entities, the app steadily progressed.

Today, the app delivers official and authentic data thanks to collaboration with Malta Air Traffic Services, EUROCONTROL, Transport Malta, Malta International Airport, and other key organisations.

In September 2018, Flying Malta App Version 1 was officially launched, boasting over 30 in-app tools organized across five intuitive tabs. The response from the aviation community far exceeded expectations, affirming the value of what had been created. What followed was a remarkable learning journey not just in managing a growing mobile platform, but in continuously improving and refining its functionality.

Flying Malta remains a testament to innovation, collaboration, and passion for aviation, with a commitment to serve pilots flying in and around the Maltese Islands.
